Our Love Song | Mari’s Birth Story | Mediclinic Louis Leipoldt, Cape Town

Mari, with her ivory skin and dainty features reminds me of a porcelain doll. She is a strong little baby though – I noticed that from the moment her grandfather (the assisting OBG) helped her into this world and she so wholeheartedly told the everyone around her that she was there. This is her birth story. It’s real. It’s honest. It’s filled with love. And it’s beautiful.

Timeless ties to your Birth | Birth Story Photo Books

Birth-Story-Books

My mom made a birth & newborn book for me when I was born.  I love that book.  Though there are no photo’s of my birth itself (I was born in a nunnery and even my father had to wait outside) there are some faded newborn pictures of my parents and me in it, some letters and cards of friends and family and my hospital wrist band.  It contains small pieces of my birth story – my beginning.

I would have loved to see an image of my father sipping communion wine given to him by the nuns to celebrate my birth.  Or my mother’s relief when she finally got to hold me after a rough labour.  I have to fill in the blanks, but somewhere between the pages of the tatty old book lies the story and memories of life and love at my birth.

Give your child the gift of his or her birth story one day (the entire one!)  Custom-designed birth story photo books can be ordered with all Love Alda Birth Packages.  Contact me at [email protected] to book your timeless ties to your babies birth.  Birth is a gift.  Celebrate it!

Birth Photography | The Best thing you Never Knew You Wanted

“When I booked you Alda, I knew I wanted birth photography, but now that you’ve captured these once in a life-time memories for us I’ve realised just how badly I wanted it!”  I often get this from clients. That or “I never invested in professional birth photography with the birth of my first child and I’m heartbroken.  Please will you capture the birth of my second child?”  I can very much associated with this second group of people – it was only with the birth of my third child that I had a friend photographer capture the story (I wanted this with my second birth as well, but could not find a birth photographer at the time).  I treasure those images more than words can explain and I still mourn the fact that I was not in a position to have this done with my first two children.

Siblings-by-Love-Alda-Cape-Town-Birth-PhotographerUnfortunately many first-time parents only realise the importance of birth photography after the fact – much like you only realise how amazing becoming a parent is when you hear that first gurgly cry – up until that point it’s all a bit surreal.  But think about it – you hire a wedding photographer for your wedding day.  Why on earth would you not want to capture this next amazing, life-changing occasion in your life? Birth photography is such a precious, everlasting gift – to yourself as the parents, but also to your baby one day when he or she is old enough to understand and treasure the story of their own birth.

Yes, there are huge medical and other expenses when you bring a child into this world (I know – I have three!) and birth photography seems (and is) a luxury. However when you put all medical, safety and necessary expenses aside it becomes a question of choices and what you value, as well as your personal priorities.  How fancy should the crib be?  Should I buy the latest and greatest pram?  Perhaps you are in the fortunate position to afford all, but sometimes parents have to make choices and in my humble opinion the long-term value of some of these choices ails in comparison to being able to relive & share the beauty and love of the day your child’s life started.

So to all new parents-to-be out there – you can’t go wrong hiring a professional birth photographer for the birth of your child.  And if you need further persuasion look at these 9 reasons to hire a birth photographer.

Kind Words | Client Endorsements

What I do, is truly a labour of love. Birth photography is hard work.  It’s not glamorous, but it is priceless. What a privilege to capture fleetings moments that will be treasured for a lifetime and beyond. And when I receive heart-warming letters and references from happy parents who invested in breathtaking maternity, birth and newborn imagery to kindle & share memories, it makes it all worth while.

I wish I can share all the messages, but with this blog I will attempt to give through as many of them as possible (will update as and when I have time).

I am also very proud to now offer potential clients with the option to talk to some of my existing parent clients who where so happy with my services that they have offered to give personal, one-to-one references upon request.  So when you contact me at [email protected] to find out more, get a quotation or make a booking, remember to ask about this service should it be of interest.

“We would like to thank Alda from LoveAlda for the professional yet personal manner in which she captured the journey of our baby boy into this world, from the whimsical maternity shoot to the wonder of his first breaths. She captured moments so fleeting that they may have been forgotten had it not been for her keen attention to detail and love for her profession. Mere words cannot thank her enough for the gift of eternal memories!” Rouvay & Martin, Somerset West

♡ Thinus, Melanie & klein Pieter, Worcester

“It was such a pleasure to have Alda photograph Abby’s birth. My partner and I were very skeptical at first as a birth is a very intimate and emotional time for a couple. Alda was great, she came over to meet with us and discuss the day and what we expect from her, she often called in to see how I was keeping which I enjoyed. She really made you feel like you were her only client. On the day she was such a pleasure, not only did I hardly notice that she was there, she really made me feel so comfortable. I was so overwhelmed by her unbelievable and the absolutely beautiful and breath taking images she captured on that day. I would highly recommend Alda. I never had the privilege of having a professional photographer at my first born’s birth and with all the emotions and chaos on the day we never took half the photos I would have loved to have captured on that day. Thank you Alda for capturing my daughters birth, these are images we will cherish forever and generations to come xx” Sherri Geleijnse, Table View

Golden Hour Maternity Session

It was a ‘golden hour’ shoot in more than one way.  Not only did we have a beautiful sunset to work with, but it was also the last warm days of a fading summer and Lene and Gerhard were in the home stretch of their pregnancy.  I loved everything about this session.  The couple. The light. The location. The memories this couple would share for years to come.
