I met Lisa for coffee to discuss her birth. At the time this beautiful mama was deciding on whether she wanted to have a natural birth. We talked through all the positives and negatives and immediately clicked.
A while later I met Lyndsay, her partner at their complimentary maternity shoot. I loved capturing their maternal journey and enjoyed this young, vibrant and trendy couple’s company tremendously. We chatted about different business ideas they had and Lyndsay, who is very health consious even convinced me to stop drinking Coca-Cola when I’m stressed out!
In the end Lisa had an incredibly intense but beautiful natural birth and Lyndsay got to help catch their son Remo. Watch their story and then we can start at the beginning!
I loved everything about Lisa and Lyndsay’s maternity shoot in Newlands Forest – from the luminous light, to the temporary tattoos Lisa decorated her baby bump with.
Lisa laboured for more than 12 hours and with the support of doula Harriet (from Bloom Yoga & Pilates / Pregnancy & Childbirth) she managed her strong surges (in one of the video clips one can actually see one bending her belly out of shape) with so much courage. The slow and steady support of Harriet reminded me again how important a doula is when planning a natural birth.
The moment Remo’s father helps catch him is breathtaking and the emotional joy that follows Remo’s birth tugs at your heartstrings.
Remo’s Welcome Home Newborn shoot was dreamy. Lisa and Lyndsay have done an awesome job with his vintage-chic nursery and I loved the combination of peach and teal. Remo loved the lense and kept cooing and showing off. When his parents took him outside to nurse under a big tree, the rustling of the autumn leaves and swaying of the tree gently rocked him to sleep.
Being chosen to capture this incredibly special maternal journey and Remo’s birth has been such a privilege and joy to me. I also thank both Lisa and Lyndsay for allowing me to share some of their precious moments with other South African parents. I wish you love, health and happiness little Remo. You are indeed a very special little person.
PS: I’ve been very good in terms of my Coca-Cola intake!
